I haven't been fishing this year so the prospect of a sunny day tempted me out. I fished the Main Loch yesterday and had a superb day catching loads of quality carp, mainly commons. I fished peg 17 and started off with a pellet feeder to the middle. This didn't produce any carp, but a few skimmers. I also loose fed a 10m pole line with 6mm pellets.

I gave the feeder far too long before I tried the 10m line with 6mm soft pellet. This line was full top 4 deep. It was solid and I caught a carp a chuck for a bit more than an hour. The were mainly commons from 3 to 4 lb. other guys on the far side were also catching on the feeder not fishing that far out. After that hour everybody stopped catching. I should have known that the fish were probably coming up in the water, but was too lazy to do anything different and after a while I simply went to the cafe for a big breakfast. ;) :D

After an hour or so away I came back and thought about what to do. My instinct was that the carp were moving up towards the sun. So I plumbed back toward me and round to my right to find a decent area up the slope in shallower water. I found a spot 6 sections 45 degrees to my right where it wasn't too steep and about 7/8ft deep instead of the 10/11 ft at 10m. I just shortened my rig and started again, feeding 6mm pellets. 10 minutes later I started bagging again, on average slightly better fish.

I had to go about an hour and a half later but my arm was sore from catching nearly every drop in. Important to fish the pellet dead depth and lift slightly all the time, many fish were hooked on the lift. Best fish was at least 8lb with a few 6s. Paul came down as I was packing up and I showed him my catch, I could hardly lift the net from the water ... 70lb I guess without trying too hard or fishing very long. NICE! Must go fishing again soon! :D

Nice one George, couldn't decide between the main loch or the sweep tomorrow but you've made my mind up for me.

Fished the main loch today with a method feeder and caught a carp a cast :D . I didn't manage anything big with all my carp in the 4-8 pound range. A good days fishing and i was really surprised to see the angler next to me catch a sturgeon which must have been at least 4lbs. I didn't realize that there were sturgeon in the main loch.

The angler next to you was Tony Hayler who reported the fact that he did indeed catch a Sturgeon in the Main Loch. There was an earlier report this week of an angler catching a sturgeon in the Main Loch so it is now confirmed that there is a sturgeon or sturgoen in the Main Loch. It is presumed that a pet fish has been liberated into the Main Loch by an angler. Good job it is not a sea fish or we would have suspects. :bleh :bleh :bleh :bleh :bleh

hi if anyone else catches a sturgeon please dont retain it in your keepnet judging by the spines on its back like armour plating will probably slice its way out, thought id caught a pike at first jumped clear of the water, if it grows to its full weight we will indeed have a 100lb weight in a match all from one fish, only regret didn't catch it on paste.

Can now provide photo evidence of the sturgeon - was thinking it may have been a magiscroft myth.

Myself and Darrin Ferguson had a silver session on the Main Loch today on Pegs 3 and 5 respectively. As per the last month the Main Loch fished real well for silvers. I caught 16Lbs-9oz of roach to 4oz ( No bonus roach today) with some micro perch for good measure. Darrin netted 3 rogue carp and lost a further two when he was fishing a single 3 elastic. He also had a dozen skimmers along with some roach for a weight of 13Lb-14oz. A great days fishing with plenty of action and CIPS practice.

Today's session on peg 13 saw around 70 roach and a few decent hybrids coming from the short line (top kit + 4&5)with the better fish coming later in the day after feeding loose maggots to bring the fish up in the water - most between 18" and 3'. Pinkie's just caught micro perch so maggot on a size 22 did the job. `Feed was 50/50 mix of Sensas Lake/mole hill soil laced with dead maggots/pinkies.

Around 15:30 I fed the 13M line and went back 20 mins later to catch 5 skimmers, one decent bream and an F1 - all on JPZ red pellet. Feed was a 50/50 mix of Magic/Brown Crumb with Brasem and a handful of micros mixed in.

Had a similar session on Sunday with 100+ roach and 2carp/2 bream for 16lbs odd.
