Stephen passes his test with flying colours.

Postby Tommy L » Mon Nov 18, 2013 10:18 pm

Stephen has been fishing all this year at Magiscroft through 'Get Hooked on Fishing' under instruction from Heather and myself. Today Monday 18th November he was given the task of catching 50 fish from the Birches Pond in two hours from 1pm till 3pm. He had the option on how to do it and elected to use an elasticated whip using a mixture of maggots and Pinkies for feeding and hook bait.

Stephen fished a size 18 hook on a number 4 elastic and caught all the way through the two hours. He had a lesson on speed fishing for roach previous and was well aware of the feeding pattern. His preferred bait on the day was double fluorescent pinkie on the hook though he varied that at times. The fish did back off a little but not having fished to start with to his full limit was abler to follow the fish out and feed short to encourage then to come back in again.

The fish came at a steady pace more or less 15 per 30 mins which was a fish every two minutes which was not bad for this time of winter. Though a cold day Stephen didn't notice it as he was so busy. Good time of year to take photographs as the Birch Pond looks so pretty hence 2 photographs of it.

Stephen ended up with 65 fish with 63 of them being roach and two small perch. A great test well passed well done Stephen.
