Pole rigs

Postby Lambchop03 » Mon Feb 05, 2018 1:44 pm

Hi folks

Looking to use a pole for the first time soon. Any suggestions on rig length and hook size? More than likely fish Birches to hurt me started.

Probably fish pellet.

Thanks in advance

just a rough guide by the way
Pond is on average 3 ft deep in the deepest part of most swims with a few being closet to 4 ft .
Float size depending on wind would be between 0.10 to 0.30 or 4 by 10 up to a 4 by 14 .
Line dia 0.12 or 3lb .
Hook size I would use a 20 or an 18
The water is very cold and clear at this time of year so I would advise against pellet for the now and go with maggots instead.
If it's any time soon you might do better fishing the pond from noon onwards as at this time of year due to the water being clear the fish respond better to the fading daylight.
Hope this helps .

Thanks for the help.
Now to try and source some rigs. Everything on eBay appears to be to long.

Well done twitcher, excellent advice and very magnanimous offer of assistance.
This really epitomizes what these forums are for. A request for assistance from a novice, and an offer to assist from a more experienced angler.
I wish more people were like you.

Thanks very much twitcher and apologies for late response. Must say Magiscroft does offer something's special. Only fished it a few times but had great sessions there. Visited a few times while passing with my kids and everyone has been helpful.

Seen folk fishing the pole and thought I will have some off that! Found a pole for sale on this forum and the seller was top notch.

I will give you a shout when I'm heading through and take you up on that offer.

Been trying to tie some rigs for a while but not up required standard! As a fly tyer I know it will come soon.
